Speakers for the 2024 Pain Symposium are leading experts in their fields. Together, they provide a multidisciplinary approach to pain management informed by applicable rules and necessary competencies.

Bunty J. Shah, MD, MBA, FASA  
Penn State Health- M.S. Hershey Medical Center

I completed my residency in anesthesiology at Penn State Health/Penn State College of Medicine in 2014 and my interventional pain medicine fellowship at Penn State Health in 2015. I received my Master of Business Administration in health care business from Penn State in 2022. I have served on the faculty at Penn State Health since that time. I have served in the roles of associate program director for the fellowship program, and currently serve as the program director and chief of the division of pain medicine. I am board certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology. I live in Hershey, PA, with my wife and two children. My clinical interests include neuromodulation (including peripheral nerve and dorsal column stimulation), vertebral augmentation, and minimally invasive procedures to treat spinal stenosis related pain.

Drug Enforcement Administration

I am a group supervisor for the diversion control division of the Drug Enforcement Administration Houston Division. I arrived in Houston after serving in the Diversion Liaison Section at DEA Headquaters. Prior to that I served in the field as a diversion investigator in Savannah, GA, and Charlotte, NC.As a diversion investigator, I have completed hundreds of regulatory inspections, investigated numerous criminal cases and played an integral role in the 2017 Medicare Fraud Strike Force.I received my Bachelor of Science in biology in 2007 from St. Andrews Presbyterian College and my master's in public administration-healthcare administration in 2009 from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. 

Elizabeth Balyakina, DO, MS, MPH
University Health/University Medicine Associates

I am a family medicine and osteopathic manipulative medicine physician at University Medicine Associates (UMA). I'm also an adjunct faculty member at the University of North Texas Health Science Center’s Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and an adjunct assistant professor at the UT Health San Antonio Long School of Medicine’s Department of Family and Community Medicine. I completed my residency in family medicine and osteopathic neuromusculoskeletal manipulative medicine (ONMM) through the Medical City Fort Worth Combined Family and ONMM residency program and a graduate certificate in academic medicine from the University of North Texas Health Science Center. I am a member of the American Academy of Osteopathy (AAO) Post-Graduate Training Committee, and recently completed a project on the development of ONMM residency curriculum guidelines to meet Accreditation Counsel for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) milestones which are available through the AAO and the Journal of Osteopathic Medicine. My goal is to provide evidence-based patient care while incorporating osteopathic principles and practice.

Jaswinder Singh, MD
University Health/University Medicine Associates

I am a board certified neurologist with University Health and University Medicine Associates. I trained at Loyola University in Illinois and am board certified in both neurology and clinical neurophysiology. I have practiced in both the inpatient and outpatient settings with exprtise in general neurology, stroke, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and neuromuscular conditions and disorders.

Michael Sobolevsky, DPM
University Health/University Medicine Associates

I am a board certified podiatrist with University Health and University Medicine Associates. I earned my bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and my doctoral degree from Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine. I completed the podiatric medicine residency at UT Health San Antonio and, upon completion, spent five years as an assistant professor in the department of orthopedics. During my time as faculty with UT Health, I trained many podiatry residents who have become very successful and highly skilled podiatrists.
